A residence permit obtained as a reunited family member need not remain tied for ever to the reagrupante (the sponsoring family member).
In certain cases it is possible to obtain an independent residence permit, with the right to work without the limitations of the previous permit.

When can it be considered?
Among other cases provided for by law:
- separation
- divorce
- nullity
- cancellation of a registered partnership
- death of the reagrupante
- gender-based or sexual violence
- certain situations of special protection
- children reaching the age of majority
- or fulfilment of certain financial or employment conditions
